Valkyries run wild in season opener of 

Western Women's CFL

REGINA — History was made on Taylor Field on Sunday night.

The score from the Regina Riot’s loss to the Saskatoon Valkyries, a 56-6 thrashing, won’t be looked upon with fondness by Regina. Rather, the quarterback-receiver duo of Aimee Kowalski and Alisha Beler will forever be the answer to trivia questions as the combination that produced the Riot’s first touchdown in Western Women’s Canadian Football League franchise history.

“There was a lot of anticipation and a lot of buildup leading into this game,” Kowalski said. “There were some nerves at the beginning for everyone . . . but we started to come together later on and saw what we need to do to compete in this league.”  Read full article...
