Valkyries ready for opponents in football final

For Kayla Mack and a handful of other Saskatoon Valkyries, adjusting to the punishing grind of football wasn't difficult - they're already used to its physical tolls.
Mack and the likes of Gillian Allen, Jessie Buydens and Julie Paetsch have already cut their teeth on the women's rugby circuit where they've collected their share of bruises and beatings.
"We have an idea of what basic body positions are for contact sports, which relate right off the hop," said Allen.
"We're not better, just more used to it."
Added head coach Jeff Yausie: "I would say there's a little more confidence in terms of contact. With that said, there's 10 or more other girls on the team who could make the national women's football team someday."
As the Valkyries enter their first Women's Western Canadian Football League Prairie Conference final this weekend against the Regina Riot, their overall comfort with all things football is evident. In their two games against the Riot, the Valkyries enjoyed a 98-8 advantage. Read full story
