Valkyries advance to final

 

 
 
Just when the Regina Riot gave themselves a glimmer of hope, the Saskatoon Valkyries snuffed out the light.

The Riot marched down the field to make the score 22-6 early in the fourth quarter, before a Julie Paetsch lateral to Marci Kiselyk resulted in a touchdown on the ensuing kickoff to increase the lead to 29-6. The Valkyries would go on to clinch their first Women's Western Canadian Football League Prairie Conference crown 36-6 Sunday at Griffiths Stadium.

"It was game on the whole game," said Valkyries head coach Jeff Yausie. "We were fortunate we had a few stops in our red zone and kept them off the scoreboard.

Added Riot head coach Jon Baxter: "Just about everything was working for us. They only scored on big plays - it wasn't like they earned any of it marching down the field."  Read full story...
