Valkyries clinch home game
THE STARPHOENIX MAY 27, 2014
Led by first-time starting quarterback Stacey Boldt, the Saskatoon Valkyries improved to 3-0 in the Western Women's Canadian Football League with a 60-0 victory over the Winnipeg Nomads WolfPack on Sunday.
Offensively the Valkyries received three touchdowns from running back Samantha Matheson, as well as two each from running back Julie David and receiver Marci Kiselyk and one from running back Amber Buchholz. Defensive back and kicker Rienna Rueve returned one of her two interceptions in the game for a touchdown, while going six for nine on point after converts.
The victory means the Valkyries cannot finish below second place in the Prairie Conference and as such will host one of the two WWCFL Prairie Conference semifinals on Sunday, June 15.
The Valkyries have a bye this week, but will travel to Regina on Saturday, June 7 to take on the Regina Riot (2-1) in their final regular season game. The Valkyries defeated the Riot 49-7 in an earlier meeting this season.
The results of that game will determine the final conference standings.
