Valkyries General Manager Michelle Duchene missed practice on Thursday, May 28th, but there was good reason for her absence. Michelle was attending the YWCA Women of Distinction Awards Gala where she won in the athletics category.
The award "Recognizes women whose inspirational athletic leadership in sport, fitness, or recreational programs benefits our community," and Michelle does that on many levels.
Not only is she the General Manager of our team, but she is the President of our Board of Directors and helps out with trainer duties on the sidelines. She has been with the Valkyries since the beginning, and was a major factor in women's football being started in Saskatchewan.
When Michelle isn't taking care of her long list of Valkyries duties, you can find her assisting with other football related endeavors in the community such as the RUSH girls flag football league (as both a coach and organizer), acting as a board member or committee member on various initiatives and lots of other things.
Congratulations Michelle!
