Photo: Louis Christ

Over the years, several women have stepped up to build the legacy of the Valkyries in Saskatoon. We will be highlighting some of our alumni throughout the Season.

This week, say hello to Melanie Harris!

How did you hear about the Valkyries? My niece in 2011

What years did you play Valkyries? 2012-2017

What was your jersey number? 39

What is your occupation? Housing Manager

What sports have you played? Where? We have the information regarding what sports you've played, but we'd love to know where you've played and with whom! High school sports, volleyball, softball, curling

What is your favourite memory from your time as a Valkyrie? It’s hard to choose just one: crushing an offensive play by working together on defence, and being thrown in as a running back to score a touchdown in my last season

Did you play any football outside of Valkyries? Team Sask? Team Canada? Yes, Team Sask 2012 and Team Sask 2016

How have the Valkyries influenced our community? They have provided opportunities for women of all ages to play football and grow the game

Are you involved with any football now? If so, at what capacity? I have been able to help coach the Outlook High School Junior Football Team, it’s been great to give back knowledge that I have learnt
