VALKYRIES ADVANCE TO THE WWCFL CROSS-CONFERENCE SEMI FINALS
The Saskatoon Valkyries will continue on to the semi-finals after a 66-0 win over the Winnipeg
Wolfpack in the quarter final game on home turf. The Valkyries had a strong first half, scoring
64 out of our 66 points. #22 Sam Matheson ran the ball in for a touchdown on our first
offensive series of the game. This touchdown was followed by another touchdown for the
Valkyries on a long pass from #15 Alex Eyolfson to #17 Haley Girolami. #7 Rienna Rueve had an interception on our defensive series following this touchdown. #88 Sarah Wright scored our next touchdown running the ball into the end zone. The Valkyries defence had another big play with a sack from #52 Dayna Bear and #55 Danaye Holynski putting the offence in great position on the Wolfpack 19 yard line. #88 Sarah Wright ran the ball in for her second touchdown of the game which got called back due to a penalty charged against the Valkyries. The Valkyries continued strong into the second quarter with a long touchdown pass from #12 Reed Thorstad to #10 Danielle Girolami. #22 Sam Matheson ran the ball in for her second touchdown of the game after a big stop from the Valkyries defence and a great return from #28 Ricki Obed drawing a penalty and setting up the Valkyries offence on the Wolfpack 12 yard line. Shortly after the Valkyries scored again with #88 Sarah Wright running the ball in for her second touchdown of the game. After a great kick-off from the Valkyries, putting the Wolfpack offence on their own 2 yard line, defence forced the Wolfpack to take a safety for an extra two points for the Valkyries. The next series the Valkyries offence marched the field leading to a touchdown run in by #32 Natasha Englot. The Valkyries defence followed with a huge play, #44 Denise Kolosky got an interception and ran it all the way in for a touchdown! The Valkyries scored their next touchdown with #32 Natasha Englot running the ball into the end zone. The Valkyries defence had a strong game, giving up very few first downs to the Wolfpack and setting up the Valkyries offence in great field position. Early in the second half the Valkyries punted the ball into the end zone for a single point. The Valkyries scored another point following a punt into the end zone which the Wolfpack fumbled and then recovered but were tackled in the end zone putting up the final point for the Valkyries for a score of 66-0 over the Wolfpack.
The Valkyries will host the Lethbridge Steel at SMF field in the semi-final game on Sunday, June 23rd at a time TBD. Come cheer on your Saskatoon Valkyries as they continue through playoffs!
